About ScanPro
ScanPro of Kentucky was born from searching for a solution to a need we had in our own family --- a need which we have since learned, almost everyone has. My name is Bud Fox and my wife, Debbie and I are the owners of the ScanPro service based in the beautiful Kentucky town of Bowling Green.
In recent years I became the inheritor of family photos from my side of the family tree. And just like reading the age of trees by reading the rings in the trunk, the family photo tree grew pretty much the same way. You can easily tell the years when someone really got into picture-taking because the stacks of photos ebb and flow with different years.
Some of the pictures are really old -- a pretty good stash from my grandparents in the 1930's and 40's if you can believe that, and a few real old antique shots that date back much farther. It was those really old ones that made me begin to think about scanning, because I realized how completely irreplaceable they are. Digital technology has come a long way, and just about anyone can scan off of the flatbed screen on these all-in-one computer printers. So I started off enthusiastically thinking this is great, I can get these scanned in my spare time right in the convenience of my home.
That enthusiasm lasted until about the 10th picture when I realized what a long, boring, tedious process this was going to be. If you've ever tried scanning photos that way you know what I mean. So I set the 'box' of pictures aside and didn't come back to it until I inherited another batch of pictures when my mother passed away. At that point we really needed some good pictures to create a slide show and a video tribute, but that meant going through a ton of photos on very short notice and then manually scanning them into the computer --- again, a very slow and tedious process.
Well that had to do for then, but I began to investigate whether there weren't scanners available that would be easier to use, because I still had my every-growing box(es) of photos. All of the desktop scanners I found for home use were still slow with mixed results in terms of quality. It was at that point that we came across the powerful new versions of Kodak's professional scanners. These would be way too expensive an investment for most people to scan personal photos, but their speed and quality make them ideal for economical digitizing of large quantities of pictures.
This is where the idea emerged for making a photo-scanning service available to our neighbors, friends and families. No matter who we talked to we discovered that everyone had the same problem --- lots of old photos stuck away in boxes or albums that rarely or never get to be seen by anyone. And nobody knows what to do with them.
Well we do now! The speed and quality of this equipment is astounding. It can repair and restore the image in many damaged pictures. It can scan individual pictures out of album pages without having to take the pictures out. It makes organizing and sorting so easy and opens the door for a world of digital uses for photos whether old or new.
As Debbie and I learned more about scanning and developed a partnership with a nationally-recognized scanning service we realized that this business filled a tremendous need. And the time is now, because stored photos deteriorate more with each passing day. Family history is lost if we don't have a way to label pictures while the older generations are around to tell the stories.
So that is how ScanPro of Kentucky came about. We know that while dealing with family pictures is an IMPORTANT thing to do, it rarely feels like a PRIORITY. And that is how time passes and pictures with their stories are lost. So we want to encourage you to let us take the sweat out of the process and get this project off of your mind! All you have to do is pull them out of the nooks and crannies where they are stored and set up an appointment with ScanPro. We can come to your home if you have photos you really just don't want to let out of your sight. We can also pick them up, carefully scan them in our office and return the original photos to you along with their newly transformed digital copies.
So call us today and we'll get you on the schedule, get this load off of your mind and show you what incredible possibilities there are for using your treasured photos in the digital age!
